Fortunately, my Dad gets around well at 72.
I take him with me on nearly every trip I make to run with friends up by my cabin, when Chuck (reddog) and I get together, etc. as well as running hounds around home.
Dad grew up in an orphanage with his brothers and sisters, but stayed at his Grandpa and Grandma's Farm in the summer.
He told me stories of Grandpa going out hunting and bringing back the exact number of spent shells that he had game.
Grandpa never wanted anyone to know where he hunted. Dad would ask him, where did you get them at (game), and he'd tell him in the woods!
He would send Dad to the woods with counted out shells, and if Dad didn't come back with 1 game animal per spent shell, he would get his behind chewed out.
Grandpa hunted with a single 20 gauge or a .22, which I have both guns to this day. He taught Dad as he has me, one shell per game animal.
Grandpa passed when I was a kid and I never did get to go hunting with him.
Anyways, (sorry for getting off track there) Dad and I expect to be making several trips up to my cabin starting in Oct.
I gave him one of my Hammer x Pearl pups from last year so he has his own hound to run.
My new brother in law (2 years) is a great guy so I gave him one of my running hounds and Dad and I will be making some trips up by him as well to run this fall and winter.
I have all my vacation yet and expect to use it to run hounds, one week in Oct., one week in Dec. and one more week in ?
We don't shoot many anymore because I get so much enjoyment just running hounds and our rabbit population has been dismal the last couple of years.
