Size of Beagle Preferred … Poll for Magazine Article...

Post by Laneline »

Please participate in this poll for an upcoming magazine article. Please feel free to include personal preferences and opinions… indicating specific strategies and/or advantages for Gun Hunting and/or Field Trialing. Please reframe from slanderous disputes and respect the personal opinions of others, though they may differ from yours. Some answers will be “quoted” in the article. Thanks for the participation.

NOTE: A third option of: "Doesn't matter, I like all sizes as long as they get the job done" is purposely not included. Be "hypothetical" and if you had to pick one, which would it be and why?

It don't matter to me, as long as they can lock on and roll. I've never had the opportunity to own a small one, seems to me they always get into the 14-15 inch range.

I like a 14" hound. They can get through the thick cover almost as good as a little dog and can stretch out on the open country runs. You also don't run into conflicts when it comes time yo measure them.

As a hunter I like a smaller dog. 13-14 in. They can get into thicker brush were the rabbits are. Also they eat less and less clean up. But as a field trailer I like a bigger dog. 14-15 in for increased speed and stamina. They just have longer legs.

I like a 13" dog with a 15" dogs heart.
For obvious reasons easy to keep, less feed,
less mess, can usually out run and out hunt
big dogs in the thick cover. This is just what
I like not always what I'm hunting because I
would never cull a beagle just on size alone

BIg 13's are my preference in all, male and female.

I don't believe size has anything to do with endurance and or stamina. Want to has more to do with that.

I have seen true 13's run bigger ones into the ground at 4-5 hours. There are lines where endurance and stamina are a trademark and most of them are not full 15's.

Run what you enjoy and respect what others enjoy as well!!!
