Carrying a Yagi into the field

Post by Househounds »

Do any of you carry your MN-10 with yagi into the field. If so have you ever seen anything like this to make it easy to carry and protect it? I would think it may be worth it for hare, bigs cats, yotes and such.

Steve, it looks like a good idea. I don't use my tracker much but for that price, I might have to get one and it would come in handy on the Island when the hounds go deep.

I got a similar one of those with the Yagi I bought from Buddy Jude. It is from the WICKS Co. and is made of the same material the chaps are made of with padding on the inside and a heavy industrial zipper going the full length . As with all the wick products, it was made right and built to last.
I don't carry it tho, it's usually left in the truck and the "pocket model" is tucked in the vest when hunting. The long gun it left for long range, so it's there if needed. ;)

I have one of the Wick case's also. I usually leave it in the truck unless I really need it , which is very seldom. I am thinking about getting one of the smaller sized recievers for the pocket.

I made one myself years ago (15 or so) before they came out with the foldable ones that attach to the wildlife unit. it works good just mad out of vinyl and big elastic straps like supenders. had $5 in it.
Not as fancy though.

Steve, the one I got is the Tracker 1000/5. Tracks 5 hounds, wish I could track 10 or more, always good to enter you buddies collar #'s also to help find hounds.
Adding florescent tape is always good, I'm always dropping or loosing something in the woods...
I got new reflective colored collars for all the hounds, big enough for the shock collar and tracker on the same. They really show up when the light hits them.
Got some pups and plenty of rabbits, should be a good year... :D

I've been looking into the one that tracks 25 collars on several different frequencies. That way I can track anyone's hound that happens to be with me .
Whem they first came out they were a bit pricey but since the Garmins arrived on the scene, the price has come down a bit.
Don't know if I will have one by this years Island trip, but I will have one eventually

Steve,
I have the Tracker Maxima 5000/30 which tracks up to 30 hounds and capable of all freq's.
This is the one I had when we found your hound, I also program in Chucks collars when on the Island.
It's a nice feeling when there are more than one and we can come in from differnt directions to find a hound if necessary.
The problem is, Tracker went out of business since the Garmins and I believe you can only get them used now from a private party.

The Garmins are nice no doubt, but as Clint calls it, the "Amish system" has yet to let me down.
I'm actually in the market for another Maxima 5000/30 as a spare/back-up and a blue lighted Marshall collar if anyone has one for sale.

Thanks guys,
I think I may get that case and try to carry mine with me more, especially on the island and when running with others. Max has a tendency to wander and find trouble when running with strange dogs, (and your guyses dogs are about as strange as they come) Also I have found once he goes off on his own he isn't going to rejoin the other dogs so the faster I can track him down the better. I don't need it much either but I don't like having to get back to the truck to get it the few times I do.

Now if I can just pay attention when Chuck tells me what radio channel we are on, me and my dogs wont get lost anymore

Rowdy , that the same model I carry and it's never let me down either. Do U only use the built-in antenna's or do U use a yagi ? I just got another yagi , a buddy gave me. He had this same unit before he sold out ( Bear dogs ) he said it increased the range greatly ( with yagi ) said he had tracked dogs at about 4 miles with built-in and around 7 or 8 with the yagi and that was in some ruff foothills of the Smokey Mtns. For free figured I'd keep it in the truck just in case. Wondering who used the Tracker & yagi & how far they reached out ?

Sportdog bought out Tracker a couple yrs ago. When I bought my tracker from Tracker I paid for the lifetime warranty . Just after sportdog bought them I needed to send mine in for a minor repair and sportdog which is here in Knoxville said they were not honoring Trackers extended warranty. This really pi$$ed me off so I carried it to their front door & they agreed to fix it 1 time for free. Now like U appears they don't even sell them anymore . I was told ,not by them that they R still being made & offered overseas in the UK but I'm not sure of that .
