I have an old male who locked up with one of my females, both retired. Was wondering at what age a male stops producing? I am keeping my fingers crossed that it didn't take.

youll probably have pups. I think Branko's Blue Ice Man was still a sharp shooter up until 12+ Yrs. Dexter use to say he was his hero.

FC Buckeye Ninja Blue Boy was potent until he died at 14, siring large healthy litters. He was a tough old boy and was still running for 12 - 15 hours at a crack at that age as well. Some have sired up til 16. That being said......You've got pups!!!

Honestly your best hope for no pups is the female not having any eggs. I have known more old females coming in heat & not becoming pregant no matter what male they were bred to than old males that were shooting blanks.

12 yr is the cut off age for AKC sires, after that a fertility test must be done to provide valid proof of the male being fertile to sire a litter.
My old Lucy bitch gave me 7 puppies in her 11th year, one of her largest litters, being bred to a 5 yr old male.
I bred two young bitches to Don's buckeye patch in his 12th year and got 11 puppies total in the two litters.
Good luck, some old hounds can still produce and others fail or loose potency. Genetics and health control so many things.

A fertility test is not required after age 12 with akc. With Blue Boy I attached an Affadavit signed and notorized with the litter application with two witness signatures of the breeding. It is either one or the other, fertility test or Affadavit. Both, however are redundant and unnecessary as long as the sire is DNA profiled, but the AKC hasn't caught on to that one yet. To me, if the dog is DNA profiled, there should be no limiting age. If they want to confirm parentage, do a swab. Sorry, got on top my soap box....

Think SR is right here . Some yrs back I bred a 14 yr old AKC male and AKC sent the app. back & said I needed to have him tested , my vet ejackulated him into a test tube and use a microscope to count the sperm . Then filled out the form AKC provided with his couts and john henery stating that his opion was the male could produce pups . AKC excepted the form & registered my litter.

Hey Lamar, is that the son of Blueback? If so i judged him in his prime so he has got to be what 12-13?
