We had rain this morning I thought it would be good to get the dogs out & run some cottontails. Was there about 20 mins. Razor came to me me with 2little holes on her front leg. I looked it over good, I said to myself I think a snake bit her. I grab the dogs to put them in the truck. Hurry home to put the dogs in the kennel. By this time I looked at her she had messed all over herself. Told the wife to call the vet, they said bring her in. Her leg was swelled up bad.Got Razor to the vet in about 20 min from the time of the bite. At this time she was in bad shape. The animal hospital did'nt have a anti- venom shot . So this sorry a$$ vet said they would work me up a quote, came back to say $1000 - $2000 dollars with no anti- venom shot. I told him I couldn't do that financially. I said I couldn't spend that much & her not make it. THEN the vet said I Don't think she will make it, but before he wanted me to agree to pay for the treatment. I told the vet how quick she has went down. The vet said you should see her now. I had to put her down. Razor was a hell of a young dog. She will be missed, Razor was out of. TUNA & DEMON.

Were the fangs bit her was about 3 inches a part. Man I have never seen anything like this it must have hit her main vein in her leg. Like I said by the time I got her home she couldn't come to me form the dog box. Her leg swelled up like 3 times the regular size unbelievable. Within 30 mins. She could not move anything. Very Sad day!!!!!!

Sorry bro I wish I could have got back to you sooner today I am out of town and was in eating lunch. I know you really was pleased with her you still have her littermate and me also .It isnt easy ,I guess tieing the leg would have kept the venom from the blood stream if you had caught it quick.Keep your chin up we will have some more pups.

Sorry for your loss. I think about it every time I run in the summer. Fang holes 3" apart, it must have been a good size snake.

Really sorry about your dog. We have been there and it is an awful feeling. The only thing to do is to keep going and enjoy finding and training another good one. Snakes are so bad around here I am nervous every time our dogs are turned loose. ROWCO

I've lived in Tn. for 18 years now.During that time I worked in the x-ray business and had many veterinary clinics/hospitals as my customers.Having moved here from New Hampshire where poisonous snakes are extremely rare to almost non-existant I was kind of nervous about running my beagles in the hot weather months.
You can imagine how surprised I was when talking to multiple vets. here that NONE of them carried anti-venom serum in their clinics! They told me that it was very exspensive and had a short shelf life.Their treatment is steroids and I.V.'s.
I run year round days and nights and thankfully have never had a problem.Hope I never do.My condolences to you on the loss of your hound.
