Lemon color question...

Would like anyone's opinion on what a true lemon pup looks like at birth and adulthood? I've heard that true lemons are a solid white/cream as newborns with the lemon markings gradually coming through as they get older. Others say they have to have a white line down the back to break up the saddle. While others say they can have tan markings at birth and they consider these to just be a darker lemon. Or would these be considered tan & white as adults?

I attached a pix of some in my litter for reference. What do you think? Thanks!

lemon and white are snow ball white at birth, it takes a few hours for color to come in. red or tan and white you can see still in the sack.

We are primarily a lemon and white kennel and they are mostly white when born and the color will come in gradually. Most will have some color but we have had a few that are all white when born.

Lusaka, Two of your pups may turn out lemon or they may not. Two of them are going to be tan and white . Notice the ears on the lighter pups ,they are not tan as of yet. The darkest color on a lemon will generally be it's ears. When the Ears are dark at birth ( as they are on two of your pups they are not going to be lemon) Most folks call tan and White, lemons, they are not they are tan and white, you don't see a lot of true lemons, but tan and Whites are very common. Also true lemons will almost always have a dark , nearly Black or Black nose, Tan and Whites and Red and Whites will have a lighter colored nose and generally lighter eyes than Lemons.

Its weird how colors pop up. I have a litter now with two lemon colored out of six pups in the litter. There are no lemon dogs in their pedigree closer than four generations back. They may not be lemon when they mature, but at four weeks they are the color of the lighter two in the picure above. The other four are black white and tan.

Thanks very much for the replies! It'll be interesting to see how the lighter two turn out. :)
