i headed down and picked up my pup from the starting pen with hawkeye on Saturday and found a couple of ticks on him. I figured ohh well it was 3 hous south of me and they have been a little warmer down there. Well I took him to the pen today in southern wisconsin to start soloing and when I picked him up he had 2 seed ticks crawling on his face! the darn frost isnt even out of the ground yet but the ticks have already started :yuck: :yuck: I guess its time to start treating them!!

I'm not quite sure they ever fully left in Mo. When mushroom hunting yesterday and found 3 and had one in January. I am not sure if they are getting better at surviving the winter or if the weather is drastically changing that much.

Had one on a hound in late December and the hound came down with
ehrlichiosis. I caught it in late January and he had to be put down.
I read an article on line saying that the Isrealies are coming up with a vaccine for tick born diseases in dogs. I will use it!!!

ehrlichiosis is spreading south east and north is the souths equivalent to lyme disease though not quite as bad if caught and teated right away. my buddy had 19 dogs in his kennel 16 of them had it. the treatment is usually with 100mg of doxcycline twice day first 7 days followed by 1 pill a day for he next 23 days. doxyycline is in the tetracycline family. doxycline is in short supply is out every where might not be much around til summer. dont play if the dog acts weak or slowing may or may not have fever get to a vet or it will kill the dog.
