If you want to remove the oxidation Purple Polish is the stuff. I used in on my diamond plate tool box and it did the trick. Depending on the type of diamond plate it could take a lot of elbow grease also.

Done detail work for years. The easiest way to clean aluminum is with an acid based wheel cleaner and a soft brush. Follow with a wash and wax soap. Will make it look new and it is just about effortless

Phosphoric acid is what they use to clean aluminum. Its the same stuff used to remove rust off of iron, but not as concentrate. You'll find it if you google it.

Got any suggestions on a cleaner? Everything I looked at in the aluminum wheel cleaner dept seemed to be touted as "non-acidic".
