Big nose
Not looking to start the normal debate that happens over big nose/mouth/brains. What I am looking for is someone that is consistently breeding big nose hounds. The ones that take a cold hare track and move it like a hot track. I know dogs like this are out there because I have seen them. The guys that have seen them know exactly what I am looking for. Thanks for any replies.

Sixty one views and no-one knows the answer. Let me get it started. Mr. Bill hounds will consistently give you nose power.
Re: Big nose
Brad I have three crosses coming up with three females that can and will walk out a track when other hounds can not. I may have one or two for sale. First litter is due in a couple weeks. These hounds have run all winter long and had some tough conditions to track in, they may not be the best out there, but they do ok.
Mr. Bill is in cross twice in the 5th generation. Dog of focus is Green Bay Shooter, snow hound nose for sure.
These are not brood hounds but my personal stock. PM me if you are more interested in information, take care.
Again, I can't guarantee there will be any available, but I would like folks looking for hounds with big noses and tracking abilities to get them.

Re: Big nose
Brad, Not that I wasn't being serious when I mentioned the Mr. Bill Line. ( I had to mention my line) But you have the home of the Premier Snowshoe Hare Hounds in West Virginia within ten miles of you. Leading Creek Kennels. I have traveled many miles with Bob Beahm in pursuit of Hares , and I know you have been on hunts with Bob as well. He has finished several of those Hare running machines to AKC Field Champion titles on cottontail as well, and they will cold trail those Hares to a jump! Sometimes in pursuit of far away and exotic things we miss out on the best things that are here at home!

Hey Brad, if I can convince the new owner of a bitch that I SHOULD have bought, I will have some cold nosed pups soon. In the meantime, I have a bred bitch that should have a litter in mid April, you know the blood lines there. Keep us in your mid during your search. Deb & Ed

Re: Big nose
If u look for nose to win on snow, gb ely. I have seen his littermate n her nose power is as cold as it comes. I took her out hunting n saw a stray running on the way back to the car. 2 hrs later n she still tunging the track I saw. I guess that is y her littermate doing very well on snow. I will be breeding gb bama to max n see if I could get something like eli n johna.

Re: Big nose
There r few guys n northern mn breed just to run on cold days. They r n hunted hare most of the time. I used to raise those cold nose dog, but they don't suit me. They could explain more if u go over there.

Re: Big nose
im in the same shoes here. i would like more nose power. my thoughts of going north for a fast snow hound from wherever where they run hare on terrible conditions leaves me with a few questions. those are hare.. most likely smell like a deer.. are the cold nose hare hounds med nose on cotton tail? also are these hounds mouthy on the front end?
Throw me to the wolves and i will return leading the pack!
Re: Big nose
Takes alot more nose to run cottontail on snow than it dose a hare. I have had several tight mouth beagles on cottontail but open good on hare.

Re: Big nose
Maybe its my imagination but it seems these days SOME of the trials have had a major influence on breeding. Guys have bred tighter mouth , hot nosed beagles that never minus but have trouble on bad conditions. The older i get the more i realize i cant eat paper and plastic. I know there are a few here and there that can run and every guy here will tell you about the one they have. But as a whole the nose is being bred out to fit the rule book. I m not saying i want a kennel full of mouthy dogs. But would rather a consistent every day of the winter hound that can circle at speed.

Bingo..Bingo...Beagles are having the nose bred out of them,by trialer standards. Much like years agoFORDWRENCH wrote:Maybe its my imagination but it seems these days SOME of the trials have had a major influence on breeding.
