We had tough conditions yesterday my dogs couldn't run very well we killed 4 dogs ate the 1.



Today the dogs just hammered all day. We killed 13 today and missed half dozen more.



Here are a few more pics from the trip. The snow varied at each spot we went to and it defiantly showed with the running conditions we had. We were in a few swamp areas where the snow was well over 2 ft, and then we ran at other spots where there was only about a foot.

when i first read this, i thought you killed 4 dogs and ate one of them -

i wasnt laughing at the way you typed it - i was laughing because many ,many times when my dogs didnt run good , i wanted to kill them , but i never wanted to eat one

ran every day except one ,the last two weeks ,,, ive seen 3 of best days of the year - and 2 of the worst - on those 2 days i wanted to kill dogs all day long - the best days im just in awe of the job they did - cant belive its the same dogs

Looks like one of Joey's tailgates. LOL! Hey, it's nice to see you're having good running, but as a native Upstate New Yorker and beagler , I know how poor the hare population has been, for as many years as I can remember. With that said, I have to tell you, for the rest of your trip I'm rooting for the hares! Nice pictures, thanks for sharing them.

Man I am not sure what part of NY you are hunting, but these areas we were in had as many hare as the areas I hunted in Maine. We missed several others and had lots of strays cross roads and tracks in the areas. The guy I hunted with had tons of spots mostly all private land but man were they just thick with hare.


We couldn't hunt today started raining last night and it froze a 1/2 in crust on top and was just to rough on the already beat dogs. So we headed home early skunked on the last day around 10:30.

i i also hunt in the adirondacks and only shoot one or two hare and thats after a 1 or 2 hour run sometimes even longer and always in front of the dogs where we hunt if you killed that many in one day you wouldnt hae any running for the rest of the season you also had to be shooting strays to shoot that many try hunting them with a 22, much more challenging , many times ill let there hare go by a count it as akill that way i can run him again unless apredator gets him

You need to get permission for the private land. The guy I hunted with hunts nothing but posted land and it was just loaded with them.

I too am in the same boat as you Scottt we only kill the hare in front of our younger hounds and only after 1-1/2 hours or more. we only hunt private lands and we all use 410's about 60% of the time we dont even carry a gun afield

our hare numbers are wayyyyy down; I think alot of this is due to all the rabbit derbies in our area; we have one every weekend for the entire length of rabbit season

our hunting buddies are not the only ones hunting most of our spots

its very weird to see how foolish some guys can get with "killing numbers" >>>> I am in NO WAY critizing you or trying to spoil your awesome experience; you are fortunate to have had access to such great hare hunting! cheerish it; its not always like that!

I hunt almost strictly with the 410 Contender and would have shot only it if I could have but it's not legal for me to hunt with in Ny.

So your dogs circled 13 hare in 1 day on what 1' of base and 15" of powder?

Only a few were shot as strays. I wouldn't believe it either if I wasn't there. We never had a hare circle over 400 yards and most of the dogs the guys from up there had didnt pack so we would have 3-4 chases going at once. If I had just my dogs we wouldn't have shot as many because mine all pack.

Bull 357 who was the best dog on Saturday?? Name?? Breeding?? Just curious I may no the guy u hunted wid in NY? If its the same guy he has some wicked spots ta run dogs!!
