I was wondering how one becomes a ARHA member, my dog is akc now but how does one get to be a ARHA or Ukc member?

First you gotta have a dog thatll run deers. Then you gotta have the ability to prevent a club meetin and strongarm folks around. Then when you questioned about it you gotta act like the victim. Then it helps to be real mouthy on the buletin boards.

All you have to do is go to any arha hunt in your area, You can join a club their and start to participate the same day. As with all registries ARHA has some issues, but all others have issues also. When you go to trial go to have fun first and you should be okay. As for deer runners, they are in all formats and are no fault of the arha.(LOL)

You will not get many replies right now , with all the rip rap going on so I'll try to answer the best I can. Find a ARHA club near you go to a hunt and join as a member and you should get a card and you get enter hunts at the other clubs off from that membership. The ARHA is like all other organizations it has some problems but my experience has been that the good people out number the bad by about 92 to 8 and you will find it worse then that at a local ballgame. Anything that is competition is going bring out the bad in some people and before anybody gets your bloomers in a knot !!! I'm not referring to ANY individual but if the shoe fits wear it's YOURS. I've seen all the same stuff before over the years not only in beagling but in other organizations . Even in local volunteer fire departments . So don't be to discouraged by all the back and forth post I'm sure there are lots of truths, misunderstandings, mistakes and probably even a few out right lies but I'm not judging either way. JUDGE NOT YOU BE NOT JUDGED so something like that is my stand. I f you don't like the ARHA try another register but hey have their problems also it's called human intervention I think! I have to agree. For the most part it alot of fun. Like everyone say you can't win all the time. It a great place to be to hang out with your friends and let your dog get some excersice at the same time. I remember when I first went to my first trial. My dog would not pack and I had to keep bringing her up. I swore it was my last one, but the people I met that day and the great story I heard. Well folks it was a great pieace of mind. I took 5th place that day. Really didn';t expect that. Now when I got to trial i'm still the same, everyone will tell you. If I win I win if I lose I lose. That the nature of the game. So come try it but remember where you come from and you'll be just fine.

Thanks everone for replying, I have never been to a ARHA trial, can anyone tell me where the closest clubs is in the port huron area that I could go and see one of there trials, I see a lot of write ups on the ARHA and I havn't read any of them. In one sentence what is all the fuss going on with the ARHA

tbb37, I've only been to one myself in West Ga. but it is fun for sure.. It was in May and the judges I watched where COOL as all get up.. One was kidding the guys that he lost the score card and they had to run the hour over again, everybody said to him make something up WE"LL SIGN IT!!!!! It was that hot plus beans and corn bread was a waiting for us.. You;ll love it!!!

The closest 2 clubs to you have trials this weekend (3 day in Kingston) and next weekend (Thumb Area Beagle Club). You should give it a try, there are some real nice folks who will help you out anyway they can.

contact a state rep for MI. they can give you the info you need .

skip what is the name of the club in kingston maybe I will give it a try, what kind of dogs will they be runing, I have a Branko female 13" that is pretty fast. plus like I said earlyer she is akc, will I be able to enter her.

These are progressive pack trials. Yes, I am sure you will be able to enter your dog. The first time is a little expensive. You have to belong to at least one ARHA club. Club membership is usually about $15, but this varies on the club. You will also have to get your hound ARHA registered, which involves some paperwork and having your hound looked at by a breed inspector (also about $15 I think). You can do this all the day of the hunt. Then there is the entry fee, usually about $15. The first time you enter a hound, it cost around $40 to $50. After that, it will only cost the entry fee per dog you enter.
Progressive pack favors a dog that is a clean, line running hound. If your dog works a check close, and has an honest mouth, you might do well. It will get minused for going wide at a breakdown if it does not work inside out first. It should not get minused for being too fast. There are some Brankos that do well in this format. No matter if you find that your dog does well or not in this format, I'll bet that you find great hospitality. E-mail me if you have more questions. sray@castlesbros.com
