well so far you have 14 different diagnosis , with that same number of different solutions ( all good houndsmen trying to be helpful). I know my idea may be a bit racial, but how about taking your dog to a Vet , a trained professional, who will give a correct diagnosis, proper corrective actions, and prognosis. I've read a lot about that Ruger dog, and he's a nice one to be sure. Why take a chance?

Shane, If he will let you mess with it just look close to see if you can see andy kind of a dark spot. You may be able to see the end of the thorn just as if it was in your hand. Try massaging it while you are soaking it in epsome salt. It may soften up enough you can try to squeeze some thing out. If some thing is in there it should fester. How long has he had it?? I would say try the vet.. Get him healed up.. We have hunts comming up on Febuary 17, march 17, april 21 and May 19th at our Old Fields, WV club. No hunts scheduled yet at the new club in Brandywine, WV that I told you about. Keep up posted. Stay in touch. Brock

I use to have the big Sportdog collars and I'ed sometimes get spots on young dogs like those but not near as bad.But if you haven't changed anything and he never had trouble before I'ed be thinking that there is something in there.Lay him up and if it don't get better you'll know.It should get better quick or take him to the vet.I had a black locust thorn dug/cut out of a dogs jaw that was almost 2 in long.Kept bothering him off and on for about a month before I took him in.Never could find where it went in at.

I tend to agree it looks like the E-collar rubbed him. Wish i were closer i have a Junie breed female that would make a great cross with Ruger. Here is a pic of her McCoy's Mountain Blue Moon( Abshire's June X Backroads Simba ) http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/jj4 ... 1358705867

Went hunting this morning with a buddy, his female came by and i noticed the same spot on her right front leg. Her TT collar had turned to the side and bumped her in the same spot. We moved the collar back under her neck and tightened it up a notch and problem solved. Freeholler maybe when Moon comes back in I'll see if your interested in breeding. :?:
