when is the first day of a females heat cycle? would it be the first day that a discharge is noticed? is there a web site that can help me understand the heat cycle?

Usually the female will show signs of "coming in", and the male dog will start to show interest in her. It will take her about 7 days before she will accept a male. The heat cycle will last around 21 days altogether, 7 days coming in, 7 days in, and 7 days going out.
