ear mite control

Post by miner49er »

I know this has probably been beat to death, but what product seems to be doing the best job for ear mites right now? I have been out of the dogs for a while but ended up getting a couple to hunt with my son and they need a little cleaning up!! :)

I have used ivomec several times before. Just put a few drops in each ear and rub the ear good and it will clean them out.

Boric acid and alcohol mixed. Best and fastest working solution I've used.
Take your kids huntin and you wont have to hunt for your kids.

16oz bottle of alcohol mixed with 3-4 table spoons of borac acid 10 or so drops of gentian violet 1% shake it up and apply. You can get all of it at a pharmacy. Will work for mites or the MORE COMMON ear infection. 90% of the time its a ear infection that people mistake for ear mites. Ear infection very common among hounds because of their long ears. Same sympoms as ear mites. Shaking of head, itching of ears. Have a close friend who's a vet this is a remedy he gave me.

My vet said ivermectin will kill their eggs. The horse paste is easy to use on a Q-tip and coats the ear canal well.
