wild rabbit live trap bait?

Post by rabbit chaser »

I have a local town with lots of rabbits like most. I have a few family members in town as well and I have a couple of live traps. For you fellas that have trapped rabbits in live traps what have you baited the live traps with to get them? This is my first time of trying to get them so its a whole new ballgame for me. Thanks for the help in advance

Sweet potato does not work, neither does onion, don't waste your time on them. Trapping wild rabbits is ILLEGAL without a permit. That being said, Gala apples work best.

apple slice with vanilla extract to cover scent.that will catch them all day long.Once you catch a rabbit it will work even better. If you catch a oppousm or racoon pull the trap and clean it really good. Then put a rabbit you catch in another trap and put in that one to put some rabbit scent in it.

I catch more rabbits than I need.I use nothing.Rabbits don t go in there to eat.Took me 7 years to learn how to catch the little thing.Been trapping them now for 41 years.i know its hard to understand, but I used no bait in my boxes.A big thing is were you put the boxes.

Rabbit Earl catches more rabbits than anyone I know. I dont use anything either. When I built boxes I took gloves collected rabbits terds I put one one the edge one in the back. After catching rabbits in them they pee poo leaving that scent behind nature works best here. In areas of snow cover my friends trap hare up north by tying the gates open with wire baiting the traps with alflafa hay and apple slices for 3 nights then set them with great results. By the way Rabbit Earl has 7 rabbit pens to rent daily located Near Spiveys Corner NC very nice place great guy to boot. I f you need rabs trapped and could plan a trip to go by and run would be a good trip.

Here in MO, you can trap (& relocate) wild rabbits on your property if they're a nuscience.

Apples peelings. But the trick to get them to go in is cover as much of your trap with limbs and brush to conceal it.

Good luck!
