Puppy that doesn't bark?

Have any of y'all had experience with a puppy that doesn't bark? We have one now that's 4 months old, jumping, tracking, sight chasing and all and has yet to bark. She's constantly down running with 2 pups around her age that do bark on track and on sight chases, but she won't. We've raised her from day 1 and she's never been whiny or anything, but she can make noise because she howls when she gets shocked for not handling.
How old is too old to not be barking?
Any advice on how to get her to bark?
Any input is appreciated.

I had one the same way, I never heard him bark until 5 months. He must have been building it up cause when he did, man he had a powerful mouth!!
I hope yours does just the same. He still stands in my kennel today at nearly 8 yrs old.
I would just keep taking her, it will come.

Just keep taking her, she is still very young, it will come. I had a male pup once that was slow bringing his mouth and I started running my dogs in the roughest stuff I could find and he started giving mouth. I watched him fight to get thru the briars and next thing I knew he was giving plenty mouth and still does.

She is still young but from our experience the tighter the nose the longer it takes them to bark especially if she isn't getting a lot of the track. Have had them be 10 months to a yr before throwing a lot of mouth.

Thanks for the input guys! I guess I'm just impatient. And she was shocked for handling purposes only. And we always turn them loose with shockers on because we have a lot of deer around, we like to break them off that early.

Was he barking before you sent him to the pen or after? If it was after, do you know what he did to get him to start barking?

Been around hounds my whole life and I dont believe there's anything you can do to get them to bark. They either will or they wont. JMO

He started before... I just kept running him in the wild with champ. and at first his barking was very limited. I think sending him to the pen helped though because the it was more rabbits to get him fired up on. Now he is 3X better

Oh okay, I was thinking about sending her to the pen but we just have so many rabbits here at the house that I can't bring myself to do it. I think she's just gonna have to get really excited sometime and will finally cut loose with a bark. She's finally started whining some when I go over to the kennel to play with them and such, so that's good sign considering she's never even really whined before. I'm just gonna keep putting her down with our other running pups until she figures it out.

Trap a rabbit. Leave the rabbit in the trap and bring the puppy to it. Let it get excited about the rabbit, then take the rabbit out in front of the pup and let it go. Chances are the pup will start chasing. Do this a few times and then take her out with one dog that runs so that the pup will get plenty of rabbit scent. When I do this my pups usually start pretty quick.....Deerhost.
Heres a pup I just started.

one thing you can try when you turn other dogs loose put her on lead wait till dogs jump a rabbit try to lead her to where the race will run right by you and pup wait till they get little past you then cut her loose works best if shes really excited wanting to run i had some start barking or giveing better mouth this way but they where barking or whinng a little too start with only had one that never barked any at 10 mo i gave up on her good luck with her
