I have a new male, i really like him when he hunts but there are times all he wants to do is mount my female. She is not in heat or anything and shes a real good dog but she will get fed with him trying to mount her and come to me and she is done hunting. I solo her and she will hunt all day. Ive shocked and knocked him off her and everything else i know to do. Someone told me to put Vicks Vapor Rub on her back next to her tail and that keep him away from her, has anyone evetried this or does anyone know what I can do besides getting rid of him?

I was going to tell you to shock him every time he tries but you said you already tried that but it worked for me. I had a young male that would mount males as well as females and I put the collar on him and set it on 6 and every time he would stick his nose close to one I would let him have it and just keep walking like I wasn't paying any attention to him and it didn't take long for him to stop it. Good luck.

You are on the right path. I would increase intensity and length of time with the shocker. If he has any smarts at all he will get the message.

Keep turning up the intensity, and dont say anything he will get the message. If you know somebody with an alfa female, she will take care of him, doesnt have to be a beagle.

My female coyote hound would tune his ass up real quick but you are a little far away. I would just keep shocking him everytime he even smells her. Like others said turn it up and don't say anything when u shock him. If he isn't smart enough to figure it out he's prob not worth keeping anyway.

The main thing is, dont let him win. You have the power in your hand! LOL

Could it be he knows something you don't know like she's gonna be in heat within the next few weeks...I've had this happen way more than once a male dog can tell well in advance that a female is coming into heat.Don't know if that's what it is but you might want to keep an eye on her....If not and that's all he wants to do all the time and shocking don't work I'd say your hands are tied you will have to send him packing or be aggravated every time you go hunting... Good Luck

Cut him and make a gentleman out of him.

He is trying to show dominance over her.It has nothing to do with heat cycles.

Let him run a deer across "dogs" property. Problem solved. Just kidding. If this makes no sense refer to the out of state hunters post. But make sure you have a couple extra minutes.

If you know that she is not in heat, pen them together for a few days. She will resist his advances and he will get accustomed to being with the opposite sex.
A well known and respected beagler told me that he once bought a young male because the previous ownner disliked the dog only because he continually attempted to breed his females. The new owner put him in a pen with several fEmales. In a few days he was fine. He later made Field Champion in the PBGA.

I've found that the uglier the females you are with, the easier it is to stop topping.
