Thanks I have his contact info and spoke with him. I'm just not familiar with his bloodline and there is not much mention of it on this board. In fact i dont see it mentioned that often on any of the boards. I expected more since wingate brandon is the sire of ranger dan. ..and you see dan mentioned everywhere ...just not any of his other hounds . So whats the bloodline known for nose hunt speed etc ...

sorry about the sire part ..i knew wingate brandon was in there close to dan

If you study pedigree's you'll find Wingate Brandon behind a ton of great hounds. Not just Dan.

One would theorize he had something to do with the talent found after him.

I'd like to line out the traits that came from him and how they have survived today. Please share with the rest of us as you gain knowledge.

I live a little over an hour from Joe Wingate ran with him many times talk on the phone one or two times a week. He runs the pee out his dogs Brandon had his ears wore half way off his head as he had killer desire big nose rare abilty to pound then walk on the tough checks died at 3 years old infection from cuts got in his blood died of kidney failure. He was an IFC , Better Beagling High Hound, one the top producing 13 sires with just a few crosses. You see his name in a lot of winners Ranger Dan , Speedy Sport,Green Bay but more importantily he came from a group of HOF producing hounds in IFC Thiesens Den Rod Smokey FC Mountaineer King and FC Mountaineer Sonny many of Kings and Sonnys off spring became famous , and also Sonnys son IFC Maple Hill Blacky and brothers IFC Perkins Luther. Blackie's son IFC Trakarab Pacesetter would become a famous reproducer of 15 inch hounds. The blood line produced many times through various descendants top quality winners known for passing their superior qualities on.They crossed well on many other lines from Branko to even spo hounds in the deep south, mid atlantic, midwest and northeast, further making their mark in Large Pack Hounds all over. There are varyng degrees of speed and style depending on the bitchline you blend with. They can produce some big time nose offspring. Even in ARHA progressive pack some would become HOF producers and winners while some were great in LPH trialing good push, hook up, and check work. I certainily think Brandon is worthy a HOF nomination and vote to be there like others from that line before him. What seperated Brandon from the rest he could drive a marked line while few others could bark on it. He would catch cottontail quite often beat 15 inch dogs bad in the bush and briar.Oftens they would be like yoyo's on a string after 45 minutes they knew who the king was and looked to him as he had an unreal nose and brains to go with it. Clarence Ward Green Mountain kennels who finished his fare share dogs and Brandon for his IFC said Brandon was the best 13 inch male he had ever seen.Only the good die young what a lose. Truelly a sensational and phenomenal little hound.

Thanks & Your Welcome. Thanks Andre Deer Host nice pups and video.Takes a good nose to run over gravel or rock. Wingates Brandon could fly but grub and take a track down an asphalt road way or a dusty droughty cotton field. Nice pups you have. I sent you a pm know some sources of old linebred stuff finished in the south on cottontail and swampers. Some hare bred dogs not all couldnt do what your pups done maybe lack of nose or patience or brains. Nothing like a tough test to see what makes the cut.Steve Church

Steve, Very nice post on Brandon! You've got a lot of hound knowledge and we're all blessed that you're willing to share it with us.

Deerhost, nice pup! That's what we look for in ours. The level headed breakdown, calmly work out the line, and then drive it on... A+ That ability is what allows them to compete across multiple formats and divisions. Nose power to run across gravel very nice! She looks like one we'd be happy to feed. Good Luck with her! I enjoyed your video's. I've watched a lot of beagle youtube video's that I personally don't care for the style of the hound in them, but yours was right up my ally. Keep them coming!
