I have a double whelper with the three wires sticking out of it each box and the heat lamp is inside the box....
How do I wire it up to my electrical and be able to have heat for the dogs.. The Sennca guy told me too buy a box of some sort and a dimmer switch and then hook that up to an extension cord so I can control the temp... I have NO IDEA WHAT HE MEANS....
I can hook up the three wires to a male plug and run an extension cord to get power... thats pretty simple but I want it to only give off a little heat not a ton and be able to turn it up or down..
If any of you guys can tell me what you've done for heating in them I would appreciate it immensely... Pictures and names of parts would be a God send!!!
oh, and what kinda bulb do i need??

Go to Lowes tell them you need a dimmer switch for a 80 watt bulb that hooks into o extension cord , but pray tell surley your not putting heat on pups now right? But 80-100 watt bulb should be plenty.

I was just there and the guy showed me a dimmer switch that is round and wires to a wall but he had NO IDEA what i was talking about when I told him I was using it to control temperature or even how I would mount it to an outside kennel without being electrocuted when it rained..

It is not likely that you are going to find a dimmer switch that is rated for outdoor use. The easiest way would be to wire an extension cord to the lamp and plug the extension cord into this device in side. I have not used this devise and it appears to be cheap so I don’t know how well it will last. Also if you are making a long run don’t go cheap on your extension cord. Since you know the wattage, and distance you are running there is calculations out there to figure your min. wire size on your cord.
Good Luck, Kenny

They also carry them at Home Depot

You can use this,
http://www.amazon.com/Lectro-Kennel-Tem ... s=rheostat But I would keep it out of the weather also. There is a male and a female plug on it so hook up is simple. There really is a lot of ways to do it, the box they are referring you to is probably just the standard box that is the same as you would use to hold a light switch or receptacle in your house.

Go to ehow.com and search How to install a switch outside. This will show you what you need. He is useing a regular switch but you could substitute it with a dimmer switch. A single gang box and a outdoor-in-use cover plate. Most Hardware stores carry this kind of stuff.

In that video he is installing it to his breaker box... I want to get it to where I can plug the unit in to an existing power supply.. Keep in mind I have ZERO knowledge of how to do this sort of thing at all... I'm not sure how th edimmer switch would even connect up to the three wires sticking outside my kennel

The 3 wires are ground (green or bare), neutral (white), hot (black). If you use an outside rated box with a cover on it you need to run a 3 wire cord from the light to the load side of the switch (ground to green screw, neutral to silver screw, and hot to gold screw). Cut the female end off of an extension cord and wire the cord same way to the line side of the switch and then plug the cord into your existing power outlet.

Thanks indian that makes sense....
one last question, Do you know the name of the switch that has the line side and a load side.. i guess thats where I am confused. I see the side that plugs up to my kennel witht he dimmer switch but nothing that would connect to the extension cord... or do I just connect them to the same terminal...? sorry I am an admitted idiot on this...

No All of them i have used have been labled but i kind of told you wrong. You do not connet the white wire to the switch you will just ty them togother in the box, That maybe were the Confusion is coming in. The switch should come with a wiring diagram but here is another. On this one they are showing the black as the line and the red as the load, and then going on to the next light if you were to run more than one off of the same switch which I don’t think you will have to worry about. You can connect the 2 greens on the same terminal
