i live in town and have four beagles i wandered if anybody has ever made a septid system using plastic barrels? i would like to no and how they did it. i do not want to have the neughbors get mad about the smell

Deny: I had considered that myself but could not comeup with a lid design I was confortable with. I think the odor would be horrible if not sealed pretty well. Plus, the lid would need to support anyone or anything accidentally stepping on it. My friend has a 6 inch deep trough behind his slabs that slopes into a septic tank (mini house type system). He likes it but the odor in my opinion is worse than when he had the trough just flowing into the wooded area behind the kennel. The larger "Doggy Dooly" types look like large (30 gallon?) trashcans but they are recommend for 4 dogs MAX so I was not sure if 55 gallons was enough. I do not mind investing in concrete (drainfield and all) if I knew it would work. The enzymes should not be too expensive in bulk if you can find them packaged that way. I think you would need a catch basin for solids and some way for the liquid to drain off the top. Here tbe ground would be warm enough for it to work year-round. heres a link to my septic tank. 250 gallons and has a lid.. also with metal cage around it for support.I put 2x12s across the top before I burried it. Been using it for about 4months now and like it. I also put a U in the pipe going in some what to help keep odors down when i buried it.Dont know where to get them up there but there tanks used for soap down here..

If you dont install a trap between the tank and opening where you hose the waste into it will stink to high heaven! Once the trap is installed and you clean the pens often enough so the water in the trap doesnt evaperate the only smell you will have is what is in the pen itself.
