bowed legs and joint pain

I have a 3 year gyp with extremely bowed front legs. Noticed the other night that she had a hitch in her get along. She doesn't let it affect her running. She's one of our best escape artists to get to the woods, but you have to carry her once she gets back home and it takes a few days to recuperate. What are the best joint supplements that don't cost a fortune?

not trying to be rude but i wouldnt even feed a bow legged dog!! thats where CULLING needs to come into play! but on another note i have heard that SPORTDOG C-9 has a pretty good supplement for joints and stuff!!!

jonny boy u tried to get me to trial a dog with crooked legs Tar was a bad example of a beagles build
crooked legs
bad bite
hunch in back
short ears
but was a jump dog from way back
make a rough pack look like a buch of crap eaters ( some are champs in 1 or more formats)
but was a gun dog (RIP TAR)

I said I WOULDN'T FEED ONE also I didn't remember tar with bad legs just a bad bite but he was still a rabbit dog that's for sure!!

If it was genetic, I may cull a newborn pup, but I won't punish a good dog for what was done to her by keeping her on wire for the first 2 years of her life. This dog is a great mother with strong pups who are already placing in trials last season when they were under a year old. She's a hard hunter who had lots of potential. As it is, she's slow enough to train my pups. I'd like to keep her hunting as long as possible. When it comes time to retire her, I plan on bringing her in the house full-time no matter what the wife says. Until then, got to take care of those joints so she can continue doing what she loves.

and your BREEDING HER i understand that not culling her cause she is not a pup but??? sorry not trying to turn this into a debate but how is that bettering the BREED???

wow , here we go with this bettering the breed stuff again , to many different opinions on what is better , his might not be the same as yours , just cant figure out why someone that likes to run rabbitdogs and rabbit hunt is responsible for making the beagle a better breed , beagles are what they are , have been for years and years , if people breeding junk to junk because they thought they knew what they were doing , or breeding to make a buck hasnt ruined them , a crooked leg dog aint going too ! in my opinion AKC trialers back 50 yrs ago came as close to ruining them as you could get and they didnt do it so i think their safe

One shouldn't breed to improve the breed, but to improve his own kennel. Sometimes that might include a short crooked leg dog.

John I understand what your saying but I think you miss read what I said. Her bowed legs are not genetic it WAS from being on wire for 2 years. She has had 2 litters and every pup has straight legs. Her legs became bowed from physical trauma.

keep BETTERING your kennel "IN YOUR MINDS" and eventually you will end up with beagles that look like thIA unknown breed of dog that cant even stand on its own!!! If you sell 1 pup that is born with crooked legs it carrys the gene defect and then someone breeds that dog and sells a pup then that guy has a litter and sells 3 pups before long guess what we got now!!we as beaglers need to breed as best as possible for hunting AND confirmation

I haven't had the first pup born here with crooked legs. I'll let you know if I do, tho it will shock me.
