What you find hunting in south Ga. when it's 80 degrees!!

For those that may not have read my other post....we were rudely interrupted Friday morning during our rabbit hunting trip to south Ga. Yes it was probably too hot to hunt but the dogs were running good and we kept them watered down. I even walked them into the swamp and dunked them a couple times.
Short story is we were walking through the brush when one of my dogs bayed a little under a small dead pine top. My buddy went up to see what she was baying and heard this guy singing loud. Everyone but me was afraid so you know who had to go deal with it. The snake was coiled up and was the biggest snake I have ever seen in the wild. I love me some rattle snake meat so once the dogs were cleared out I worked on catching the thing. Nothing i did would get the snake to where I could safely deal with it so I decided to just shoot it. I thought it's head was clear when I lined up the .40 cal but as you can see in the pic I did hit the body. We haven't officially measured it yet but I can tell you I am 6'1" and I already cut off the head and about 2" of neck before the pic. I could not reach around the snake except for the ends. It's head was as big as my fist and it's fangs were almost an inch. The meat is clean and in the fridge for a cook out this weekend and I plan on getting the skin done by a professional. this sure ended our hunting in the thick stuff for the day.....thankfully it cooled off for the rest of our hunt.
