An older friend of mine that has deceased used to have a male beagle that was a natural bobtail (less than half tail) that would throw bobtail pups in every one of his litters. I bred one of my females to him once and she had 6 pups and 3 were bobtail. Two of them had a bobtail just like you would bob a rottweiller or cocker spaniel etc.. I don't know if any of old Sam's pups threw any bobtails or not.

I haven't ever had a bob tailed pup, but my oldest female has had 2 litters and 2 pups from the first litter had crooked tails and 1 from the other litter had a crooked tail.

A litter we had 10 years ago had the crooked tail, never seen one since, also never seen a bobtail either.

I'm by no means an expert but in my opinion if a beagle has other than a normal beagle tail, your looking at some mixed blood from long ago popping up.

Crooked tails are usually the results of genetic defects. This will occur when one or both parants carry recessive genes for that trait. Under and over bites, crooked front ends, cherry eye, hyperactivity, hyperthyroidism, dwarfism and the list goes on.

I have one from a litter a couple years ago but it came from a couple generations back the neighbors cur dog (good coon and squirrel dog) got with her Grand dam.

She is in the middle.

Here she is with a hare a couple weeks ago

So like 19rabbit52 said I think there is some mixed blood in it's background.

The litter I had with 3 bobtail pups had 2 with tails just like this one.

Thanks!!..I thought it was cool looking too and just had to keep her!! Don't have to worry about her tail bleeding like my male dog. I thought i was going to lose him due to loss of blood last week. He fell behind in the chase and i knew something was wrong so I caught him and he was covered in blood from his tail bleeding. The guys with me thought he wasn't going to make it either. When he gets in this shape it takes a long time to heal so I may have to look into getting his docked because I am afraid he will bleed out while running. He came to me the other day and the blood was squirting out with every heart beat!!
