Re: Need help getting my pup to pack
My best hound and some of the better hounds I run with all have seen a great deal of solo time before being introduced to a pack of dogs. What I think works is just running the pup with ol' trusty. And just that one dog that won't really put an @$$ kicking to the pup, but when given the chance redirects the pup when mistakes are made. I'd say after a week or so he shoold atleast be runnin with ol' trusty. After that throw in one more and if he can take the pressure of two dogs great if not back to ol trusty or even start over with a fresh dog for another week...

Just keep taking that pup with you and the pack. Eventually that pup will get in there and run with them or the pup will get a site chase while the pack runs one past you and will figure out what all the noise is about and start running with them. I have seen a ton of pups that get nervous and come out there first few times but it doesnt take long before they figure it out.

I have young male like that to by his self look like the next best thing, but once you put 4 or 5 dogs the frist brak he is coming to find me.Will not go out there and hunt, alot of people told me to give him more time.Know that hunting season over i will start running him with deriffent dogs and then add one more at a time on him.Keep me posted how it work for you,i will do the same.

If the young dog has the fire to run one...walk him on the leash and make him watch and listen to it being run. Bet he will wanna be part of the fun. Never seen a dog yet that could stand that pressure.
