I find bells to be very distracting. It offends my sense of propriety.

I tried the round sleigh bell style for a very short while. I liked them at first. It helped to know how close young dogs were to me ,especially when getting them to handle. But soon learned I didn't like them because I had a dog get a dew claw stuck in the bell 2 different times. I quit using them all together. They got annoying to listen to after a while anyway.

Used them on my grouse dogs. Never tried them on beagles but seems like they would be very distracting. Worked great on the English Setters though.

I like the bells the way they sound. Just sit on the hil or a log sip some jack coke and listen.

You don't think bells are annoying to the wearer, put one around your own neck and walk around for a while. Why would you think it would be any less annoying to your dog than it would be to you? Not trying to be a smart here it is a legitimate question . I have known several guys to go through the bell stage, The point here is that they went through it.

I use them and like them because I can tell where the dogs are. One of my buddies doesn't use them and sometime he would be toning or giving a light jolt to bring the dogs in and they would be within 15---20 feet of him. They don't seem to annoy my dogs. I keep my bells on my e-collars and when I pick up one of my e-collars at home and the dogs hear the bell they get fired up ready to go hunting. I like the swiss bells.

Same here. And I will add on more than one occasion I notice the bell interfere with a dog being able to hear other dogs running that were just a little ways off. It would typically be on one of those days when the sound just stayed dead in the air with maybe a little wind or something but it kept it soft enough that unless the dog with the bell actually stopped for a second it just never heard the other dogs until they got closer. I'm also sure there were times when I would be calling a dog that might be a ways out and it just didn't hear me because of the same thing.
