We have two weekends left here in Wv. I'm trying to talk a few buddies into heading to the mountains to run some snowshoe hare. If we get lucky and kill a few how do they taste compared to a cotton tail?

Early season pretty good.
Shoot one in March and they get a tad gamey.
Overall, better than a woodcock!

my buddy big river beagler said his iowa buddies liked them so must be ok . he came to my hare camp 3yrs in a row and always took some back to have a hare dinner with his buddies . and they eat a lot of cotton tail but like the hare just as much he said

I don't know when you are thinking about going, but I was told that some of the roads are close to being drifted shut after the storm that we got over the weekend. As for the eating, IMO, they are not nearly as tasty as a CT. They have a "piney" taste this time of year

RHYRE, I don't consider them good table fare. I haven't hunted them for quite some time and that is one of the reasons why. I always fed them to the dogs. So, if you find that you don't care to eat them don't throw them away, some dogs will eat them.

Like Scott C said we hunted them in Oct. and they were great fixed them just like cottontail. I dredge in flour salt and pepper brown them in skillit then put them in dutch oven with oinions potoatoes green pepper stewed tomato and a few bay leaves. I take ketchup and brush libral amount on rabbit before I put veggies in and add some beef or a little chicken stock for moisture cover and bake on low heat till rabbit almost falls off bone. Then I make gravy with the drippins serve with greenbeans and homemade biscuits. This is what my Granny showed me never had anyone get up from the table unsattisfied after this meal. Scott
