They don't get too old as long as they are healthy.

Im trying to get a 18month old started, and it has been a struggle. I am kicking myself for waiting so long, but didnt know any better.

Get a tame rabbit and put it in a cage and tease it. If it has the genetics, eighteen months is definitely not too old. Some people don't try to start them until they are over a year old.

I started one of mine on rabbits in our neighborhood. Take em for walk in the evening and encourage him to chase the rabbits off peoples lawns on the leash. Thats how he first opened on a rabbit. I was within a few feet of him. It was awesome. Especially when you can see that "did I do that" look on their face.

I also used to send my son out ahead of me and spook the rabbit, then let the dog trail where it went. Fun stuff....
Good Luck
