From the first day a female starts bleeding how many day's counting would be the best day to breed her ? I've heard 10 is that right ???

If I am breeding to one of my males I try to breed on day 10 and then again on day 12. If I only had one shot at it I would prob. go w/ day 12. I've heard it said, that its better to be a little late than a little early.

when we breed one of our females we try to breed them on the 9th and 11th day if i only had one day to get her bred it would be on the 11th day. jmo

When I was in college taking vet tech classes, they told us that the prime days were the first day of standing heat(typically day 9) and the third day(day 11). I have always had good luck following this schedule. Although, I have bred them as late as the 13th day with success.

From the 8th to the 12th day they will normally take depending on the female.

Start on day 10 and if she stands , you should be good to go. She knows when she's ready. If she doesn't stand , try again on day 12. Not sure it will work for all, but has worked with mine.I do usually breed at least 2 different days for good measure, but I've always had access to the males. Good luck

Some of the old fellows used to put their female in with their male as soon as she came in heat and leave her until she went out but of course they owned both dogs so it was no problem but I have always heard day 10 thru 13.

MY opinion is based strictly on experience and not science. Here at ROWCO we start on day 9 and try each day thru 12 until she stands. We try for 2 breedings with a day between. If it is a cross we really want to make and she is ill and has not stood by day 12, we may hold her. Our percentages and litter size has not been as good in those cases - just experience. ROWCO

ive had best luck getting more pups and more females than males by breeding from days 9 to 11 if ur female will breed then lol!!

12 and 13 always worked good for me.

The accepted rule of thumb has always been ---From the first onset of bright red blood the best time to breed is between the 10'th and 14'th day.
I have found it to be more accurate if you breed three days after the first day that the female will "willingly" accept the male.
To elaborate---A female will often stand for a male before she is actually ovulating [say for example the 8'th or 9'th day of her cycle ].If you breed her the 3'rd day after she will "willingly" accept the male then you are usually hitting that 11'th-12'th day from the onset of the heat.
If you have access to the male than by all means breed her several times [ skip a day between ] to insure that you get her covered during her cycle.When I can only breed one time I always have bred on the 12'th or 13'th day and have never missed yet doing that.
Bottom line is that your female ovulates [ eggs move down into position to be fertilized over a period of several days ] and the males sperm can live inside the female for up to 72 hours.This gives you a window of opportunity to make a successful breeding over at least 2-3 days even if only getting to breed once.
Generally speaking the dogs know when it is the right time.Again I say GENERALLY speaking, that the female will not accept the male until she is actually ovulating and an experienced stud dog knows exactly when that is.
