Was curious on how long you would give a dog to get started. I have 2 that are a year old and just don't seem to have it. Very frusterating.

About six months less than you have. I suppose all lines are different, but if I raise a pup from my dogs it will be circling rabbits at six months or it will be on the way out.

i dont know how your starting them . but i was told about a dog that became a fc that was a hard starter . brankos proper barion . i dont even messwith mine till six to eight months old. but also seen one jack coe had that he spent a lot of time and money . to start and finally 2yrs plus later gave up. hard to tell. but i usally am able to get mine started with inn a month at the latest when i decide to start them , and thats in the wild. but thats why i wait tell big enough to run with an old pup trainer . usally a good old bitch that has slowed down but still runs clean. dont need them learnin bad habits rite out of the gate.

No starting pen. Just been taking them out with the one dog that will run, They have seen rabbits, been on a hot track but just haven't opened up. Gonna try to trap one and see how that goes. do you guys think it is to late for a starting pen?

One of my dogs opened first on rabbits in my neighborhood. Walked him on a leash and when I would see a rabbit I would chase it with him. Sure I looked like an idiot but it worked. He was an easy starter.
