Switching from puppy food to dog food?????
I was wondering at what age does everyone switch they're beagle puppies over from the puppy chow food to regular adult dog food? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

I have fed puppy food but I do believe if you feed a good quality chicken base food you don't need it.

I have always feed purina food, dogs seem to do well on it and waste is minimal. I have been feeding their puppy chow food since i brought the pups home and now they are going on 6 months old and close too as big as they are going to get so i was wondering if it would hurt to start feeding them the regular purina food all my other dogs are eating.

I quit feeding puppy chow thirty years ago. I feed the same food from time of weaning, that I feed the rest of my hounds.Dillinger09 wrote:Have never fed a puppy kibble, just a rich and high quality kibble.

Re: Switching from puppy food to dog food?????
I know a fellow beagler that had some bone growing problems in a litter of pups. As they got older the front legs of some pups looked like bulldogs. The front legs were bowed out really bad, he took them to the vet to get checked out. The first thing the vet asked him when he saw the pup was " are u feeding pup food". At that time he wasn't and the vet told him that most adult food dont have the right ingredients for growing puppy bones. So this is why I'm asking. Don't know if it's vet BS or what. He has never feed adult food to pups ever again and haven't seen the problem.

I also don't feed puppy food. At most I'll slightly dampen the regular food I feed my other dogs, good quality adult kibble works great. They are generally marked "all stages" on the bag if they have all the nutrients they need.
