I need recommendations for a dog diet. I have a female that has had 2 litters of pups and gains weight very easily. She is stocky framed and only about 4 years old. Has not been spayed and gets average amount of exercise. She is being hand fed once a day. I realize the need for protein in the diet (cooked lean meat and peas). How about increased carbs in her feed in the form of rice?

Suggestions please.

carbs are the first thing transformed into simple sugar and stored for use later as fat. Carbs should be kept to a minimum. Lean meats and vegetables, uncooked if possible. Research the barf diet. There are good manufactured foods out there if you are willing to pay the price. Good Luck

Only way to came off her weight is to cut back on the amount of whatever you feed her. Like humans, weight for animals is all about calories... If she's putting on weight, she's eating to much of whatever she's feed..... I have one that I've just put on a crash diet (almost pulled a mus. in my back lifting her to the tail gate) and she's half her size in two months. Dogs will drop weight quick just be sure to have PLENTY of water always avalable to her. :chef:

One thing I learned from the SHOW folks LOL to cut back on a dogs weight cut back on the feed. here is One thing that we do, substitute 1/2 of her feed with No salt or low salt green beans.. Will fill them up but wont put on weight That and a regular running will take the weight off fast...
