I am sure it has been asked before, but what is the best feed for pups? The guy I am getting my pups feeds Pride, but it is rather expensive and only available at one location 30 miles away. I am looking for something that is really good for puppies, but does not cost a lot either. Thanks!

welcome to the board, Good luck with your pups, there really are a lot of folks on here who can be very helpful. Purina puppy chow is probably about the best all around puppy food commonly available. Some other good ones are diamond puppy which I have had good results with as well. Unfortunatley pretty much any good puppy feed is not going to be cheap, welcome to the world of dogs. Just wait till you start buying dog boxes, shocking collars, gps etc. The good news is that puppies dont eat much and a fifty pound bag lasts quite a while. Good luck!

Im looking for a really nice house, 3 bedroom, 2 bath, some acreage, but dont want to spend over $20,000.....

Thats a sick way of saying you get what you pay for......all that said, if I was going to cut corners it would not be on the puppy food while the pups are developing bone/muscle and growing.

A RAW diet is extremely good for pups and if you get creative it can be fed for the price of low priced dog food.

Mybeagles is right you should not skimp on the puppies food

if you cant afford to feed them right you should not have them
The price of the puppy food might be high but a bag goes a long way

we use the Diamond food

I'll second that, I raised two litters this summer and the purina puppy chow was terrible, skinny lookin and runny waste. These pups were wormed according to schedule, at 5 weeks, switched them all to Diamond Puppy 30/20 and within 3 days I could tell a world of difference. Everyone that bought a pup this summer couldn't get over how slick and healthy all 13  pups were. Most said they were the healthiest lookin rascals they ever bought. :D

Chad you must of been feeding the regular purina puppy. the purina pro plan puppy is the best feed on the market.i have fed it for years now and never had the problems that you were talking about.39.95 + tax for 34 lb bag . i dont post much on here but had to put my 2 cents in. you get what you pay for. i fed diamond for yrs several yrs ago it kept going down in quality and was not what it use to be. then they put out some bad feed and killed some dogs and i would not feed it if it was free. opinions are like a lot of other things every one has one. this is mine on puppy feed and purina pro plan performance is the best adult feed on the market. nuff said

yes it was the regular puppy chow. I have used the pro plan puppy with good results, but for some reason the feed store was not stocking it at the time I had pups. I agree you get what u pay for, seems like everything these days are goin up in price except for my hourly wages hahaha

For my two pups I am feeding them Purina Sensitive Stomach & Skin. Expensive food, no doubt but the best feed I ever fed. Less poop and good stools. They gobble it up and a bowl 1/2 fills them up.

i mix a bag of purina and a bag of diamond, but i still think it is the raw chicken leg quarters that make em look so good.

I feed Science Diet puppy chow to the mother starting 2 weeks before whelping thru weaning and the pups then are fed the same thing.
