I started off with a 15-16 inch male... Then went and got two 13-14 inch females. I do not run the females with my male due to style differences (he was my first beagle and my buddy so I could never get rid of him!)
I've only been into beagling for two years so time wil tell if I enjoy running bigger dogs over smaller dogs or vise versa!

Reason for posting is to find out does leg really matter? On snowshoe? With snow depths that last from Dec-March,from powder to ice, then to wet slop.....Both my beagles are 16+ and drive well.Trying to see if it really matters much?????Whats your thoughts and why?

My 13" female dos not move through a foot of snow as well as my 15" male, thats for sure. May take a while to circle a rabbit in dep snow.

Yoteslayer,
Thats what I was wondering. The common sense thought would be leg helps, but got to thinking about wieght of a smaller beagle not sinking in as deep? I've always had larger beagles, just thinking of the options out there.........Thanks for your reply!

13 up to 16+ .Give me the bigger ones any day.I ran two 15in. females, and my 13 tonite and once again when they really started driving the 13 sat in the rear waaay back.she is a good dog,and I really liked her at first, but give me a 15 plus any day.Much more powerfull.jmo.

Got a 12.5" , a 14.25" and a couple of 14.75.....in the snow I think it's more about drive than size. What is gained by leg is lost by weight....a 15" dog breaking through all day vs a 13" dog that is staying on top or close to it is no contest the 13" is gonna put a spanking down but in the end it's the dog who won't quit and gives 110% all day that's going to put the smile on my face at the end of the day. I think alot of guys get too hung up on size alone and give up other traits just to get an oversized dog...what good is a 16" dog with a crap nose or one that babbles? I put nose and brains before size anyday.
