I live in clay county ky and the local politicians have adopted a bill that you have to register your dog every one of them every year . they have started the rabies vaccine every year with that i agree with to a extent you also have to vaccinate your house dogs i dont agree with that i have 2 inside dogs both are full grown and combined just way 4 pounds so they are not outside but just a few minutes at a time and never unattended there is also something in this law that says no chaining them up and no kennels so where am i supposed to keep all my beagles? if you don't have them licensed they have the right to come take them if they find out. I could understand a one time licensing fee but every year that's fxxxing crazy they are having a meeting this Wensday at 3 pm you can bet your axx i will be there so if i don't report about that evening would you all be so kind to take up a donation to get me out of jail tell me what kind of laws you have where you live

Kybeagle,
Most if not all states require ALL dogs to be licensed annually and part of the license requirement is to get a rabbies shot. However, its not usually enforced very stricktly unless there is a complaint on your dogs.
Being new to the Ky area I have had the misfortune of seeing some kennels that are rediculous, and have crossed the line into animal cruelty. I think we all want to see the abusive situations corrected, the problem is we don't want the regulations imposed on us. I always view the license/rabbies issue as a necessary evil.
You may look into getting a kennel license. Those are usually around $25 annually for up to 10 dogs and requires an annual inspection but saves considerable $$$$. Establishing a good working relationship with your Animal control officer is a good place to start. Once that's established, they often can offer valuable insight into running an efficient kennel that doesn't cost a fortune. The officer I had in Michigan was extremely helpful and was very knowledgible.

the rabies shots here are only 10 dollars per dog at the vet i agree i know one guy who has like 60 dogs in deplorable conditions and that needs to stop but the animal control officer here is not a real respectable guy and he likes to try to push his weight around i understsand that the animal shelter needs money to run but if you would google clay county ky politics you would see that in the last 5 years we have had every politician thats been in office in the last decade is now in prison and it could be a trust issue for what they will use the money for

its a local politician and i went to my district magistrate this morning this law is a mess if a dog is on a chain it has to be 10 foot long and have a runner cable AND YOU CAN NOT HAVE ANY OBJECT ON A DOG THAT CAUSES PAIN SUCH AS SHOCKERS.while i was there the magistrate took 100 phone calls from people over this he said if he voted this law he would have to move there expecting 300 people at this meeting

These laws are getting crazy everywhere.I live in Maine, and laws are similar here, just enforced if there is a complaint on dogs barking or running loose.Alot of these bogus laws are pushed by tree hug'n animal right ativists. That are try'n to stop hunting back door style.......Make'n it harder to have hunting dogs. We've been batteling it here for quite some time now.Ya all need to get active in a club and push signatures to the politicians. All they seem to care about are votes and if they get more signatures in your favor they'll swing your way.......

Causes pain--- I don't think shockers really cause that much actual pain so much as scares them if your using it right...
shots cause dogs pain and so does a choke chain-- they gonna ban that?
What is the actual purpose of registering dogs every year? do they claim safety, health, etc for it?? seems like that should almost be unconstitutional... it would be like registering all your cattle or something.. Why can't people just use common friggin sense anymore.. its pretty easy to spot a puppymill and take care of it rather than punish everyone for being animal owners

Hope this doesn't put me on the "bad" side of a lot of these guys, BUT, I am the Animal Control Officer in my town. I've had beagles all my life, so far. I don't go to anyones place unless there is a complaint. Licensing dogs is done once a year, state law, not a town law. Rabies is required every 3 years. This way, if a dog is licensed, we know the rabies is up to date, because a certificate is required to license the dog. I have a kennel license which does NOT require an inspection every year. The state can come by anytime and inspect a kennel, but I've never seen anyone. I for one, would like the state to honor a certificate that I make out as to proof of rabies shots, would save so much on vet costs. In Vermont we have rabies clinics each spring and most folks take advantage of that because it only costs $10.00 per dog for rabies shots. You would be surprised of the number of people that DON'T give rabies shots. Dog bites are the biggest concern. If a person is bitten by a dog NOT up to date on rabies, that person must go through the rabies shots for humans and that is very painful, so I'm told.
So,this is my 2 cents on licensing. Thanks

I agree with most of what you said . However a person that has been bitten by an unvaccinated dog does not necessarily have to get rabies shots. Common practice in most communities is to quarantine the dog for 10-14 days to see if it shows symptoms of rabies, if not, no shots. If dog is a stray and cannot be located, that may be a different story.

Big Mike is right. I have an anecdote for you. This summer, I was rather severely attacked by a large beagle. Got me in the legs, both arms and hands before I could put some lead into it. I bled pretty bad and went to Dr. They taped everything up, gave me some antibiotics, pain pills and told me I had to report it to the county dog people. I did not. I figured, I didn't want cops snooping around my house. Took about a month before I could move around well but, I never got rabies and never saw a cop
