May be a physical reason, may want to have a vet run some blood test.

nothing wrong with the breeding......something is not right with him and he needs to be taken to a vet. Get full blood work done.
First question i have: Do you give your dogs Ivermectin? If so, you could also have a kidney problem. all of the above post are right on.....stroke, worms, kidney, low iron, lyme, etc.....
good luck!

Seen heartworms do that to some of the hardest hunting coon hounds around . Have you had him tested
for that ?

This may or may not have anything to do with your dog, but I have had 3 dogs do this since the late 80's, and they were all related. In the end, I found out it was “genetic” so I discontinued using those particular dogs that tested positive for the problem within the line. It was really a shame, they were stellar dogs until they all hit the same certain age and then the disease “kicked in”.
It was a Thyroid problem and a simple blood test can detect it. It is genetic. The main signs are if the dog lacks energy, quits or loses interest in hunting all together and has a scruffy or dull coat. Other signs are if a dog has gained weight or is having chronic skin infections or if a breeding dog is experiencing reproductive problems or misses. Especially the part of {lacks energy, quits or loses interest in hunting all together}, if you know the dog has had extreme hunt and interest its whole life, up to that point.
Hopefully it is not a thyroid issue, good luck.

I like to buy pups from old/inbred proven hounds, longevity is a virtue often over looked...

Might have a "pinched nerve" in his back?
Run your thumb and index finger down along his backbone.
See how he reacts.
Or...take a female in heat and let him "try" to mount her.
If he has a physical problem he most likely can't get into position.
good luck,
LPB
