I live near Boise, Idaho. Does anyone hunt beagles around here? I am curious what the beagle hunting scene is in my neighborhood.

Jack, thanks for the response. I wasn't sure I'd get one. There isn't too much organized hound hunting of any kind in Idaho which is too bad cause I've got a dog that I really want to put a measuring stick on, but Corvalis is far away and that seems to be the closest game around.

We can find out about dog.Right now it is very very dry.It would not fair to your dog to try him now.Besides its a long drive and not be sure about scenting conditions. It will rain as it always does in the fall. But its your call if you want to find out if your hound can handle the very dry running.Just Stay in touch. Deer season will open the first of Oct. THere are lots of Jackrabbits up around Napa, You WILL NOT learn alot about your dog runningthem, except he will go carzy trying run them. Jack

I went out a week ago and ran for almost 2 hrs. If it wasn't for the cheat and foxtail, I would run all summer. The dogs definitely have more trouble in the dry, but they will find rabbits if they're there. I want to see how they fare with other dogs that are hunted a lot. Jackrabbits would be fun. I used to run them with my beagles when I was a kid.
Nampa is a ways to the east of me, I run around in the Payette drainage and the lower Treasure Valley (Snake River). Lots of rabbits (cottontails) in the desert, just too many holes for them to dive in.
Thanks for your info. I'm sure we'll stay in touch.

TC, thanks for the reply. I was a member of Mary's Peak and have hunted with Jerry Ray, Jon Sorenson, Church (forgot his first name), Bob Botta, Bob Baker, Jimmy Gibbs and others several years ago. I moved to Idaho from Medford, Oregon. I am a pleasure hunter of big hounds as well as little, but am wanting to get more serious into the little ones. Jack sounds like a great connection and I appreciate that he is a serious houndman with lots to offer and I hope to take advantage of that.
