Who hunts coyotes?

I never saw the point in hunting coyotes because I don't have anything to do with them, I'm not a fur trader and I'm not planning to eat them but a couple seasons ago I had a couple of good big females chased by some coyotes....I heard an odd bark so I started beating feet to see what was going on, luckily I was in time...one of my females ran right to my feet and wouldn't leave me, I had to drag her back to my dad so he could hold her while I tracked down my other female...by the time I got to the last female she was badly shaken but not hurt badly....at that point I decided to try my hat at predator hunting. I haven't done nearly enough of it, seems like there's never enough time but hearing about another great dog getting killed by coyotes brings me back to that time. I'm getting back to it and hopefully will kill a lot of coyotes.

How many here hunt coyotes? No matter what we do we won't completely wipe out the coyotes but if enough people start hunting them they will at least fear people enough to keep them away when we run our hounds.

I think being a rabbit hunter and killing coyotes go hand in hand.I dont get out after them as much as I would like to, but I try to go to places I hunt atleast once or twice and do some calling to thin them out. i figure goin after the song dogs is something I have to do in the offseason to get prepared.

Hunting coyotes is not as easy as some may think. Anyone who as ever tried to call them in, trap them, hunt them with hounds will tell you the many challenges. Certainly not trying to discourage anyone, but it you think its as easy as purchasing a mouth call from Walmart and sitting down next to an oak tree and calling in a few, you will be lucky to ever see one.

Finding beagles that will cold trail, jump, run, and bay a coyote is more difficult than finding beagles that can do a decent job on a rabbit. Ive been with guys that run coyote with beagles many times and it can be a blast, but the days of not running anything out number the great chase days.

Good luck in your venture, kill all you can......

I actually take a few when hunting rabbit, deer, etc. . I did take to trapping them and coon, opposum, grey fox, red fox, and feral critters . I started 3 years ago and I have seen an increase in rabbit numbers and worry less about coyote encounters.

ive hunted coyotes for alittle over 15 years... fox hunting long before that. its definitely not easy in the eastern states. you have to put your time in to kill them in my areas. pressure with guys not knowing what they are doing and blowing on every call known to man and using the digital callers have really educated the coyotes the past few years. lol. i took a trip to illinois this past feb and hunted for a week... it was like calling foxes in ohio but more intense lol.. they literally have no pressure and literally run you over coming to the caller.... predators are my first passion and beagles come second. cant help it. :D

We get 50-70 a year up hear with dogs and its not easy! We have plenty of hunters that go with us and help get them! The more guns the better
