Pups are due in the next couple days and the heat just wont let up. Heat index of 100+ almost everyday and showing no signs of letting up. Wondering how hot can it be and the pups make it? Any ideas on how to keep them and mom cool safely from the time of birth on untill we get a break? Any tips would be great. Thanks

I had a couple of litters a few summers back and it was in the 90's . What I did was freeze liters of water and rap a old rag around them and put them in the dog house with the pups. The little puppies would get just as close to the bottles as the could. While they were melting I would has one freezeing for the next day. I also used 24 oz drank bottles once.
Good luck

Chad,
Im in the same boat, I have several litters on the ground. I lost a few pups while keeping them in my outdoors whelping pen, so Ive moved them all inside in large plastic crates in the a/c. Havent lost another pup since. I think this heat is too much to bear on the pups and mother. My bitches were very stressed while outside in the heat nursing pups, if you want to save pups, the a/c space is your best option. Good luck!

Hey Chad - Make sure the A/C is not too cold as I have lost pups in the past that way.
