Hey Bev -- Forum Issues With FireFox Browser

Post by Buckshot101 »

Bev, there seems to be forum issues with FireFox. Haven't had any issues with it before. Not sure if it is related to the forum version release that was updated recently.

Works fine in IE9.

Here is how it looks when you choose to go to one of the forum sections in FireFox:

Update your browsers and the problem should go away.

Bev, after doing some testing, the browser version is not the issue. Just upgraded five phpbb3 forums last week to the lastest forum version ( 3.0.9) my own and clients. I have no issues on any phpbb3 forums including the latest version - 3.0.9 accept on here.

From what I see, it looks as though it's in the coding.

I should not see the below code on the forum front page at top.

Code: Select all

<!-- begin break out script--The JavaScript Source!! http://javascript.internet.com -->
Screenshot below.

I believe the issue lies in the javascipt coding and is broken(incorrect perhaps missing a closed tag) for the above code to be seen. My guess, this coding is in the overall_header.html.

Path is /styles/prosilver/template/overall_header.html

Be sure to click on the Purge the cache button after making changes.

You may want to pass this on to the webmaster who updates the forum and does the coding.

I'll pass it along. I think certain extra code is written to have the picture header, which I've insisted that I want. I always use IE and I never have image viewing issues. (???)

APFII, think it is more than just my 4 computers............reason I say that is because I have the same issue on other computers I have been on.

Bev, that is fine keeping the coding for that...............but if that coding has a closed tag accidently missed in the coding or error in the coding, it will cause issues and show part of the coding on the page when it is not suppose to be on it like It is showing.

That code is not for the pictures but for saving the site as a favorite.

I am no expert on these phpbb forums, but do run and code customized template versions of them to know a thing or two about them.

FireFox 5 came out before the latest release version of the phpbb3 forum ( 3.0.9)..............Had versions under FireFox 5 not been compatible, phpbb developers would not have released the upgraded version to be incompatible with FireFox. FireFox is already dealing with users not upgrading to 5 because of Google dropping the Toolbar for version 5 and on.......Been in the Business news this past week.

If there is coding issue within a template, then it can have different effects across the different browsers. Some show the erros, some don't. I encounter it all the time running custom code on the template that the default does not have.

That is why I have to test sites in IE, FireFox, Safari, Chrome, and Opera to make sure there is no issues within one of the browsers and if there is, make them compatible across all browsers.

I.E.'s last two versions have been very safe as far as browsers go. This coming from my computer nerd son who normally avoids anything Microsoft.
