Question about eye pigment....

I have a beagle that has kinda hazel / yellowish eyes. I'd never had a beagle w/ anything but dark brown. Anyway, I went out w/ the flashlight tonight to check on the dogs barking at an opposum or something and I noticed that all the dogs had bright yellow eyes reflecting in the flashlight, but this dog's eyes were blood red. Kinda spooky looking! lol

Anyway, just curious what this is...I'm figuring its some sort of lack of pigment. Is anyone familiar w/ eyes like this? Also, would you expect this would be something he would pass on in breeding and is there any downside to it?

Thx in advance,

Pete

Eye color doesn't matter. They see the same which ever color they are. It has to do with the different types and amount of pigment in the eye. I had a beagle with one brown eye and one blue eye. And I used to hunt with Polovich who had one blue and one brown eye.

My buddy had a Shoreacres/Jack of all Trades dog with golden color eyes. He was also a very good dog.
