I didn't realize that litters no longer needed to be registered. I would have planned it a long time ago...Have fun!

I'll be there Saturday evening. I have a couple males to run on Sunday. Its been a while since I've ventured this far north; I am looking forward to seeing some old friends and meeting some new ones.

I've gone the last 2 years but I don't have a futurity this year. I've got 2 for next year though, hopefully they are ready to go.

A futurity is a beagle under 2 years old. The Futurity Trial is a large pack competition for dogs of that age, originally meant to get recognition to the breeder. I have heard that the trial is a very very good time.

A Futurity runs in the calendar year that they turn 2. So the youngest hound could be 1-1/2 and the oldest 2-1/2. This is an AKC sanctioned event running under Large Pack format. Usually an AKC Rep is in attendance, and Purina sponsors the Purina Cup award. Check out the Futurity site posted above. I hear they have a pretty cool webmaster. ;) It's one of the more fun trials I've ever been involved with -- both as a sponsor and a competitor.

It's not always held in Vermont. It used to be, but then they offered to move it around. Maine has hosted it a couple of times recently, and then it went back to Vermont a couple of years ago. All Large Pack Clubs on both sides of the border are offered a chance to host it, so they try to keep it northeast where it's accessible to the Canadian beaglers, too. The Michigan and Southern Large Pack associations have been good-natured about making the haul up there most years. If several clubs bid to hold it, a vote is taken in September to decide who hosts it for the following year. The hare population has forced the committee to adjust some of the procedures on hosting.

I think Michigan should get to hold it one of these years.
