feeding pups?
just wanting to see how you all feal is better to feed, have food available at all times, once, twice or three times a day. im leaning towards self feeders. the only problem is these pups are used to once a day and will eat till their as big as a barrel, what do you all think is the best feeding program?
Re: feeding pups?
if you go to auto feeders they will ajust to it they will not just keep eating
Re: feeding pups?
Most importantly, give a quality wormer. If puppies are full of worms you start a vicious cycle of eat, puke, crap. I always preferred to feed 3 times a day so I could watch. You can tell quite a bit about your pups dominance when they eat.
Good luck with your litter,

Re: feeding pups?
I usually put my pups on a self feeder until they are 5--6 months old and then start feeding them once a day after that and they all look good and once they get used to the feeder thay seem to eat less than they do when I feed them myself. I used to raise hogs and the same held true for them, eat less on feeder.sctr3131 wrote:if you go to auto feeders they will ajust to it they will not just keep eating

Re: feeding pups?
Feed pups 2 times a day. 1 time in morning and 1 time in late afternoon. The amount depends on the feed.

Before putting them on a self feeder might try feeding first as usual then put the on a feeder when they are full seems logical never tried it tho

Re: feeding pups?
The first day you put them on the feeder you will think they will never stop eating but after they get good and full they will just eat a mouth full or two at a time after that and really won't eat much because they really are not hungry but there is all ways an exception and sometime you will find one that will stay stuffed all the time.Ky.
