Can I Get Some Opinions
I use 10x10 on the ground kennels to house my beagles, and have been considering getting rid of the pea gravel and putting them on concrete. Any opinions, I have heard concrete is hard on the hips though.

I have mine on concrete and would never go back to anything else. The only thing you need to do is make sure you put a smooth finish on it. No broom finish I heard of a guy putting a broom finish on his and it cut his dogs pads up pretty bad and he had to tear it out and re do it. I just bull floated mine, that way its smooth but not slippery when wet. Works great for me.

Re: Can I Get Some Opinions
I have six runs on concrete with no problems at all. Easy to keep clean and free of parasites (fleas, worms and ticks) as well as prevention of Coccidi and Giardi.

How does concrete prevent coccidi and giara i knw it cotaminates the ground and dog houses and bowls and water buckets ect as well too My bud has never had dirt pens and deals with virus such as those on his concrete and ecspecially ticks and fleas but i do know coccidi is a live virus that can live in the soil as parvo to but can also ly dormate on anything once there i thought thier may be a chemical in the cemet mixture that would kill the virus
Re: Can I Get Some Opinions
i put mine on deck floor made out of 2x6's didnt even use treated , spray thompsons water seal on them every year , have had the same floor for 5 years now and no signs of wear or rot , as solid as day one , hose them out once a week , bleach them once a month . the small gaps let them drain nice and dry quick and it cost peanuts compared to concrete

Rabbitsmoker ask "How does concrete prevent coccidi and giara "?
Concrete does not prevent any disease but by the nature of it's composition, it is easy to santitize and in doing so you prevent disease. Clean with bleach and water.
Nothing wrong with patio blocks, they do a good job too.

Re: Can I Get Some Opinions
This is whay I did. I laid them on sand over a gravel base, Butted them up to each other. Water drains between the cracks. Easy to sanitize. My kennels are in a carport so it's in the shade, & my dogs will lay on them in the summer cuz they're cool.DINGUS MAN wrote:concrete patio block are cheap and do a good job and no troubles
