I have salted a beagles food in the summer. Last year I had one that didnt like the heat. So i started salting his food. Seemed to work but I got worried hed have a stroke or something so i ended up quiting. I was told by some old timers that they used to put salt blocks for livestock in their kennels. I know when i had horses ive seen regular old farm dogs sit and lick on the blocks on occassion. I guess it would be fine but I dont know of anyone that does this. I posted a similiar question last year with limited responses.

If you feed a quality feed, there should be no reason to give salt...

The purpose in using a salt supplement is to replace minerals that have been "sweated out".
Dogs don't sweat. I don't see any value to giving a "salt lick" to a dog.
