I have both. The first dc 40 I had was junk. They replaced it and it has been working great. I like the 40 better now. its smaller, and the collar is nicer.

I've got 4 of the DC30's and like them very well. Since I loaded the software updates they've been excellent regardless of cover. I also put mine on dayglo collars I got from Buzzard's roost....nice upgrade the stock Garmin nylon ones stink after a short time.

I have a couple of each the 30 and 40 and they both seem to work the same for me.

jude i know folks who have both. the 30's are probably just as or more reliable than the early 40 models. the 40's lose signal often but do come back within a 30 seconds or so. the 30's lose signal less for shorter periods but are heavier. good luck i am still debating on which one myself. i was waiting for the new sportdog tek 1.0 but the collars are super outragiously high and the gps reciever doesnt' have roads on it.

good luck
