It is with great sadness that I report the loss of Syris McGee, who passed on 4/24/04, due to a freak kennel accident. Bev, thank you so much for promoting Sy in so many issues of your magazine. Thank you to all who judged him, ran with him, handled him or just had kind things to say. I owed Sy for giving me the opportunity to meet so many of you through the sport. So many friendships I have made were possible directly through this special dog. Again, thank you Jamie Hilbert for taking such fine care of my buddy over the last year. Your friendship was a important part of both Syris's and my life.
For those of you with Sy pups, I hope you can honor his legecy by finishing and placing these fine young hounds. Thank you all for your breedings and best of luck with your pups.
For any of you that booked breedings for this summer, I will be offering Sy's brother, GRHBCH The Woofman of Smokes Creek, or Sy's son, field winner, Smokes Creek Maximus Crank, for free breedings.
As I ran 3 generations of Smokes Creek dogs this morning. Through the wind and rain, I know I heard Syris McGee picking the hard checks up on Smokes creek. I guess the Lord needed another good check hound to run in his all-star pack. I'll miss you my friend. Run the front hard and dont look back! Till we meet again, words cant describe.

Sorry to hear that Rick. It's always difficult when a good one goes -- especially when it's before their time.
The comforting thing is that with every born pup the chance is there for one of them to make its mark on us and grab a piece of our heart.
Hope I'm not out of line for asking this, but the answer might save one of us from the same outcome... what type of accident?

Rick, I have never met you or Syris but over the past couple of years I have read each and every on of your post or articals in the AB. With a lump in my throat I read your post, and I will be thinking of you. I wanted to tell you that I was sorry for you, but ya know I'm not. I would be sorry for you if you had never owned Syrus in the first place, because that would have truly been something to be sad about. Take the memories and cherish them, he is truly a measuring stick for hounds to come. Heroes fade into the night, legends live for ever. You will never replace him because there can only be one Syris, but you will have many more than win your heart.

Rick -
I am so sorry to hear the news about Syris. I was shocked to read the news! I know it is hard to loose a hunting buddy. This hound has brought many people joy! Please keep up the good work and build on the solid foundation you have in Syris. I have a 7 mo. female pup out of him that I am proud to own! I was just on the board this past week braggin on her for getting 3 out of 5 jumps running w/ 3 of my older dogs.

Sorry to hear the bad news Rick. It's always tough to lose the good ones and I know how special Syris was to you. Unfortunately, this is a part of beagling that we all must endure.

I was just looking at the American Beagler while in Kentucky with Oakhill and said how Syris was my absolute favorite looking hound. He was a beautiful well built hound and there was just something about him that caught my eye. No words can express the sorrow that you must be feeling. Best of luck to you.
