not liking the purina puppy chow. they changed it and my puppy stool is red from the food coloring they put in the new formula they have.

I wanting to switch her to something else. I'm thinking the Purina One Puppy chow over the blue bag stuff?

havent bought it in a year or more but there was two varieties... the big dog version was still like the old version.. if i remember. What is up with Purina though they have forgotten about the working man that has made them successful in the past. There prices are through the roof and forget feeding the good stuff unless you want to pay out the ying yang...

Most purina food is a 1 &2 star dog food. Their prices match a lot of 5 star feeds. Only 35 pounds on most bags and high prices equals rip off.

Iams puppy has worked good for me. If you can get Pride puppy (30/20) it is good as well.

The only way I know of to get a quality food for cheaper price is to find creative ways to feed a RAW diet. Befriend a meat market or butcher to get some scraps. Most stores wont let you get the scraps, they would rather throw them away because of the liability (everybody looking to get rich in a lawsuit). Road kill deer.....raise chickens.

Quality dog foods are very expensive $40 on up, some over $80 a bag. The $25 a bag foods are the hot dog versions. Most will keep your dogs alive, but require extra attention to your dogs health, which may end up costing you more in the end.

Diamond naturals puppy was pretty good for the price last time I used it.

Not sure if this is why your seeing red stool, but maybe could be. Last spring on some state ground I run on , they planted corn. I saw a lot of the seed and it looked pickish red. A running buddy of mine knows a guy that deals in the seed industry and said he was told they pump "nutrients" into the seed now days. I think he said nitrogen , but not real sure. I have noticed though that the old saying " knee high by the 4th of July" seems to be old news. The fields around here are far taller than that by that time of year. Whatever the case , they have done something to make that corn grow quicker.

After doing some reading about corn in dog food, and also noticing a change in my dogs on the feed I used for 5 years, I switched to Diamond Naturals with out corn. I've had no complaint with it. I know they have had problems in the past and there are some guys who wont feed it. You got to feed what works for you and your dogs.Diamond Naturals has been good to me and I know a lot of guys feeding it with great results. We buy it by the pallet for pennies under $22 a 40lb. bag. A little pricey but wont break the bank either.

Now when it comes to a pup , I wouldn't worry about price. I would try to buy what I felt would give it the best start with good ingredients. Plus your usually not feeding a whole kennel full of 'em , so a bag will usually last a while.

My Beagles thats what I have been doing lately. My neighbor has a little butcher shop and he actually grinds all the scrap up into hamberger for us. I have chickens also so every once in a while I will throw an egg in with there food. The only problem is my one dog is a fussy eater and after getting the raw meat he won't even touch the kibble I guess he is a smart dog!!

the old formula of puppy chow never had red kibble in it. They just recently changed it. Not sure when. its been awhile since i've had to buy puppy feed.

I picked up a bag of this last night.

I think that's red dye that they put in that puppy chow. I heard it's not good for dogs. :???:
