I would appreciate some opinions on this topic as it will help me in deciding wether or not this is something I would want to use in future breeding. Thanks in advance for you input.

I would have to say line breeding is probably one of the most contriversial topic there is amoung beagle breeders.

In my humble opinion it is good if you are working with the right line.

One thing for sure you will see all the good and the bad when you line breed.

If you or very careful in selecting your crosses. This can produce some out standing dogs . All so some real duds if incorrect cross is made. You don`t breed them just because they or related.

A breeding program requires the use of all three; inbreeding, line breeding and outcrossing to obtain the desired traits in our stock. The real trick is in knowing when to use what.

We say we employ a line breeding program because on paper as to family relationship that is the method we imploy most often. That is, we breed together hounds whom are somewhat family related more times then we employ either outcrossing or inbreeding as it relates to family relation ship. IN relality if we remember that when we breed we are bringing together genes and not family relationship, we are actually inbreeding.

Hey Joe,
It's good to see you survived another one of our N.Y. winters. I thought perhaps you did not because I haven't seen you around. Are you going to the N.H. fun run at the end of May? I was hoping maybe we could finally get to see each others hounds run. I have been running the girls that will be making the trip with me about 4hours (on average) at a time 3 to 4 days a week and they are looking sharp. Hope you can make it!

Chris and a bunch of guys (and maybe gals for all I know) are getting together to have a feed and run hounds on hare in N.H. at the end of May. I would direct you to the topic on the site other than this one that I visit because there has been lots about it on that site but I can't get it for some reason for the past couple days. I though it would be a chance for us to finally get to run our hounds together. If you decide it is something you want to do let Chris know. I was worried you might have been lost in the boonies up your way because I have not seen you on the board. I thought we were going to write you off as winter kill!

Not lost just busy. Spring cleaning in the kennel, cutting and burning in the running grounds and my son goes to college in Aug. so I've been working extra to get some extra money together. A day of running with others would be nice; let me know the date and I'll see what I can do.

Good to hear your still kicking. We got some used chainlink at a good price and are putting in another lot for the pups. I think rotating them out of one into the other will keep the ground from becoming so bare and dug up.
I know what you mean by getting the extra cash for college. We got the boy through and the loans turned me gray, but he got a good job. The girl is finishing her 1st year and informed me she now is going to take my advice and become a vet., oh my gosh what have I done. The hair is now falling out...lol...I told her I was going to exchange the college bills for vet service when she was done. I don't think she took me serious though, boy is she in for a surprise...

S.R. Patch My son is going to Hawaii for astronomy. I havent figured out yet if he really likes astronomy or he just likes Hawaii. Don't know what good the astronomy is going to do the hounds either.

LOL, I know what you mean. The boys has had his job for a year now, did the European tour while in college, now says he's glad he got the opportunity before he entered the "real world"...lol
A computer engineer and I can't get him to show me how to put a picture on here...lol

Imagine my situation, a son and daughter both at the same college 4.5 hours away. My son a music peformance major who plays every instument known to man (reminds me of that boy on the Walton's) and has a tenor voice that is so good that he was asked to tour with a select group in Japan this summer. My daughter also a music major is studying music therapy so as she says "bring music to those who might not ever get a chance to experience it". Two great kids that make me worry about becoming starving artists! They can always return home with me and the mrs. I have lots of kennels to keep clean!

Boy Hillbilly, don't think I could handle 2 in college at the same time. Shoot, it was hard enough letting them go one at a time...

Ever catch yourself standing in the doorway of their room in a blank stare. Don't know where or how that time went so fast, every once in a while you check at night to see if they might still be home in bed...

They think little of it, they have their wings and are ready to fly. I was the same way when I left home, though I never flew far. Other places were nice to visit but the old saying,"ther's no place like home", rings true for me. I needed good soil, dirt that would grow things. Sand and rocks were fun to play and climb on but you know in your heart when your home.

I think the girl will stay close to home(she's always been mama's girl), but the boy seems to have a dose of gypsy blood in him, likes to travel. I blame it on my wife's side of the family. Her brothers were Navy men, who sailed and saw the world. I often wonder, do we pick our fate or does fate pick us.

Sounds like your kids will do fine as they have loving parents to support them. And like you said, we can always use the extra help in the kennel...lol...Patch
