A lot of people have been asking the difference. Here's a picture of the difference between a Swamper and a Hillbilly.

Is the swamper the one in the middle? Looks like something from the black lagoon.

Hookset- IMO, the better difference between the two is how they run in front of the hounds. As a rule, a Swamper has better habitat to play his tricks on the dogs. No doubt you have seen them hide in water when pushed pretty hard or jump up on a blowdown that is 3 to 4 foot above ground, run down the length of it, hit the ground and take off again. besides the big circles they tend to make. I much prefer my dogs run a Swamper over a Cotttontail. Nothing better than a pack of Beagles singing their song !!!

Red, a few years ago Emery took me up north ( Northern Wisconsin ) and we had a similar situation. Sam ( Emery"s brother ) shot a Snowshoe with a .22 and it ran a whole nother "Wisconsin Mile" back to the gun. The neat thing to me was the blood trail it left in the snow the entire way. It seemed more like trailing a deer to me. I couldn't believe the distance a wounded rabbit traveled, I have never seen a cottontail do this.

Here's a few decent sized Swampers from the TN River. I do think they get a little bigger down in AL, MS and LA.
