In the woods I also use here, sit, stay, up, and down. Up and down come in handy for getting them up on a brush pile or up a loading ramp, or over/ under something or down off things. Sit and stay to clip them on a lead. Mine also know "cage" means get in the dog box. Since mine are in the house I have taught them to lay down, play dead, roll over, shake, catch, fetch, and walk on a leash. I found them easy to train and that the way to a beagles mind is through their stomach.

Come, Down, Check, Leave-It, Fetch! Fetch is usually the tricky one, but with consistency they usually get the picture!

sit, down, go lay in your bed, get kitty (when are house cat doesnt want to come back home he will bring her back in a hurry!), find the rabbit!, get in there (brush piles, logs ect...)and dance pretty.
